Before you look at the list, PLEASE READ. This list is a progressive ranking. Ranking of the teams we thought were playing the best football at the conclusion of the 2012 season. It’s not about Team X beating Team Z in week 4 or Team A beat Team B in week 9. This list is who was at the top of their game when their season concluded.
RANK |
TEAM |
RECORD |
|
1 | ROBINSON | 13-1 | Semi final appearance and played their best ball in the post season. |
3 | EAST LAKE | 11-2 | Struck balance on offense and defense started to really produce when it counted most. |
2 | PLANT | 10-2 | Beat some good teams throughout the year, but a rocky offense in the post season. |
4 | WHARTON | 8-3 | Produced nearly 500 yards of offense vs. Dr. Phillips. The team who beat Plant and lost to the 8A state champs in the semi finals. |
5 | ARMWOOD | 9-4 | Offense was inconsistent the majority of the season, but the defense played pretty good with lots of youth. |
6 | LARGO | 10-1 | Did not look like the 10 win Packer team we saw prior to the Armwood round one loss. |
7 | HILLSBOROUGH | 9-2 | Emerged as one of the best teams in the Bay. A few snaps away from advancing to RD 3. |
8 | CLEARWATER CEN. CATH. | 11-2 | Lost in the playoffs to a team that would have defeated many of the 7A and 8A teams in the state. |
9 | PASCO | 12-1 | Breezed through the season until they met a team better than them. That team didn’t win, but won big. |
10 | COUNTRYSIDE | 4-6 | We can only imagine what would have happened in the post season without the forfeited games. |
11 | NEWSOME | 8-5 | Came on like a hurricane after the loss to Durant mid season. A few snaps away from a semi final appearance. |
12 | DURANT | 11-1 | Undefeated until they ran into a Newsome team looking for revenge. Opportunistic defense and bruising offense. |
13 | LAKEWOOD | 10-2 | Made a big effort to strike balance on offense and it proved to help with the outcome of their season. |
14 | SICKLES | 8-3 | Underrated. Ran the ball well and threw the ball just enough to keep defenses on their heels. |
15 | JESUIT | 7-3 | Ended the rocky season with a big win, AGAIN, over rival Tampa Catholic. |
16 | CARROLLWOOD DAY | 10-2 | Small school only wanted credit they deserved. Rarely had a close game, scoring big points. |
