Farragut beats nemesis

ST. PETERSBURG — Talk, talk, talk, talk, talk.
The noise bellowing from Victory Christian’s side of the field on Friday had become an incessant sound for Admiral Farragut over the past three years.
Considering the Storm had owned the Blue Jackets during that time period, the chatter was understandable.

Two of the three defeats came in the playoffs and abruptly ended Farragut’s season.
Playing in front of a home crowd, it was put up or shut up time.

The Blue Jackets did more than put up as six different players scored in a 42-13 win.
“They kept talking on Facebook about how they were gonna beat us again and kept it up during pre-game and the first quarter,” said Blue Jackers receiver Alvin Cunningham, who caught three passes for 53 yards and one touchdown. “As the game went along, they started more and more quiet, though.”

Kyle Craichy had a breakout game in his first season as Farragut’s quarterback, completing 9-of-16 passes for 231 yards and one touchdown.

“It was fun to throw the ball around to all the receivers we have and watch them make something happen,” said Craichy, who transferred from Indian Rocks Christian. “Our offensive line was amazing as well and they’re a big reason for me being able to do what I did tonight.”

The two teams didn’t exactly electrify the crowd at the beginning as Farragut fumbled on its first possession and Victory Christian did the same on their first touch.

Once Farragut got the ball again, though, it would score on four straight possessions before halftime.

Craichy was instrumental in setting up the first score, connecting with Cortavious Givens for a nine-yard gain and Cunningham for a 16-yard play. The second pass put the ball on the two-yard line, where Todd Macon ran it in to give the Blue Jackets a 7-0 lead.

Craichy was at it again on the next drive, hooking up with Demetrius Lewis for seven yards and Macon for a 43-yard catch-and-sprint into the end zone as the Blue Jackets took a 14-0 lead at the beginning of the second quarter.
The Blue Jackets got the ball three plays later after the defense held the Storm once again.

Colby Robinson, another transfer quarterback for the Blue Jackets, entered the game and led Farragut on a 55-yard drive, capping it with a 20-yard touchdown pass to Cunningham.

Louis Bobelis converted the first of his two field goals for the game with a 19-yarder right before halftime to put the Blue Jackets ahead 24-0.
Farragut would not look back as Givens scored on a 16-yard rush in the third quarter and Brad Hyman returned a kickoff 60-yards.
The Blue Jackets outgained the Storm 408 yards to 73 and were just as dominant on the defensive side of the ball, recording four sacks and compiling nine tackles for losses.

“We had a game plan to spread the ball around because we knew they’d fill the box up with defenders,” Blue Jackets coach Chris Miller said. “We talked about staying focused and committed to the task at hand and getting off to a good start. We were upset about losing so much to them. We didn’t want the same thing to happen again to start the season.”

Blue Jackets receiver Rayshawn Jenkins rushed three times for 78 yards and he had one reception for 49 yards. On the reception, he turned his ankle and hobbled off the field, but he would later say the ankle was fine. SEE HLITES HERE
