Evaluating Clearwater Central Catholic 2023 WR/DB Nate Johnson

Clearwater Central Catholic rising senior Nate Johnson was an All BCP selection as a wide receiver following his junior season. Offensively, he totaled 980 yards and 9 touchdowns. Defensively, he intercepted 3 passes and returned one of those 70 yards for an additional touchdown. He also had 13 tackles. The 5’10” 175-pound athlete was a key contributor to a successful Clearwater Central Catholic season which saw them make a run to the third round of the playoffs.

When you watch his film, it becomes clear that his speed is his greatest asset. As a receiver, his speed makes him very difficult to cover in general, but even when he is in a crowd, his quarterback throws him open and he creates separation with ease and makes the catch. His speed and elusiveness allow him to be a homerun threat with jet sweeps and in the quick passing game also.

On defense, his speed serves him just as well. Receivers simply can’t create separation and his closing speed allows him to make plays on balls many players wouldn’t have a shot at. Johnson’s film is great so it is easy to understand why he has been stacking up offers. The play that starts at 1:46 would be the opening highlight of a lot of player’s films. He is a game-changer. Johnson is sitting this spring out, so we will have to wait until fall for some fresh footage of him doing his thing. Expectations will certainly be high!
