This past weekend, Auburndale 2015 ATH, Derwin James competed in the Central Florida 7v7 Invitational with Polk County Dream Team. He made some outstanding plays which showed his strengths, “I can read the offense well. I have power, speed, awareness and technique.”

The FSU commit is a humble young man who has yet to allow the recruiting attention drain him. He carries a 3.6 grade point average and wants to improve on the field as well as in the classroom. “I can improve on my footwork” says James. Not that it is bad, but can always get better.

Teammate Wilbur Cooper gets James going. On a daily basis, Derwin says he and Cooper go head to head in the weight room and on the field. Some friendly competition with a talented teammate pushes James to improve everyday and become the best player and teammate possible.

“I’m getting a lot of recruiting attention from Alabama, Michigan, Iowa State, Clemson, Miami, Ohio State and South Florida.” He holds offers from Florida, Florida State and Miami right now. No spring or summer unofficial visits are scheduled yet.

ON FSU…
“What really influenced me to commit to Florida State was it’s a school that I always dreamed of going to and when I finally got a chance to visit it just felt like a dream come true. I love the atmosphere. I love the coaches every time I’m there and when I look at Doak Campbell field, I see myself making plays and doing big things.” – Derwin James
