HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY

Cougars Maul the Chiefs

The undefeated Durant Cougars have been tremendously impressive all season and tonight would be no different. A huge homecoming crowd was on hand, at Ron Frost Stadium in Plant City, hoping to see the Cougars put on another explosive performance. Durant did not disappoint and played like a team destined for greatness by dismantling an overmatched Chamberlain squad 49-0.

Durant’s power running game is not flashy but it is consistent and their running backs are like a three headed monster overwhelming anything that gets in its way. Durant would pound the ball down the field on their first drive which would end with a Zach Hooper touchdown run. Chamberlain would make their first of numerous turnovers on their initial offensive play when Zach Hoffman intercepted a pass for the Cougars. That would set up a Jamarlon Hamilton touchdown run. Hamilton was a beast on the night racking up 132 yards and 4 touchdowns. In the second quarter he made the most impressive run I have seen this season. He broke up the middle for 43 yards; however, the impressive part is that he was lugging two Chief’s defenders for at least twenty of those yards. Jamarlon has a very similar running style to former Tampa Bay Buc’s great Mike Alstott; hence, I think it would be appropriate to refer to him as the J-Train from now on.

You can sum up the Cougars defense in one word: STOUGHT! On Chamberlain’s second offensive possession the Cougars Defense had three straight tackles for loss. Chamberlain was severely overmatched by the sheer size and quickness of Durant’s Defensive unit throughout the game and never mounted a serious scoring threat. Junior defensive end Dontriel Perry was monstrous on the field and recorded three tackles for loss and a sack on the night. Paxton Sims and Michael Mendez were other defensive standouts for the Cougars.

Durant looks like a force to be reckoned with in Hillsborough County this year and I am certain you will see them rise in this week’s sweet 16. They are a well balanced team that gets it done on both sides of the ball without making careless mistakes. The next four weeks sets up very nice for them and it would not be surprising to see them go undefeated in the regular season.
