Chris Schwarz sets new Pasco County single season rushing record

River Ridge’s junior running back Chris Schwarz set a new Pasco County single season rushing mark (2536 rushing yards) Friday night in a comeback-from-behind Class 5A region quarterfinal win over Tarpon Springs, 29-28. He finished with 398 yards on 55 carries and four touchdowns against the Spongers to help the Royal Knights win their first-ever FHSAA playoff game.

The previous mark (2,514 rushing yards) was set by former Gulf standout Adrian “Bubba” Golden in 2008 in 12 games; River Ridge has played 11 games and will play Friday at Lakewood in the 5A region semifinal playoff game so Schwarz has a chance to extend this record.

Currently, Chris Schwarz’s 2536 rushing yards leads the state and is 11th in the nation. He has 349 carries (averaging 31.7 carries per game), 7.3 yards per carry average, and has scored 27 rushing touchdowns.

Schwarz’s has also played time at linebacker this season and has 48 tackles, 6.5 tackles-for-loss, 1 sack, 6 passes defended, and a fumble recovery.
