ARMWOOD AND JEFFERSON LOADED WITH PROSPECTS, SEE THESE 4

Jefferson Dragons

Armwood 4-0 at Jefferson 3-0 this Friday Night is our Game of the Week.  Both teams have a bunch of college prospects. Below we highlight a few that are not as publicized as others.

CRAIG CARRINGTON

ARMWOOD

2014

RB

5-10

225

Armwood’s leading rusher is a bull.  A workhorse of a player that has been depended on to carry the bulk of the running game because of injury to the Armwood running backs.  Carrington’s style is similar to former Notre Dame great and Pittsburg Steeler Super Bowl Champion Jerome Bettis.  He hits the hole hard with a down hill attitude, looking for the first jersey of another color to bring the contact, instead of accepting the contact.  Rarely will you see one defender bring down the 225 pound RB.  It will take multiple players to bring down Carrington and that’s after he carries them for a few yards.  He always fall forward, takes a beating and keeps on ticking.  Not the biggest name in the Hawk locker-room, but definitely one of the most dependable and accountable.

AUSTIN GALLON

ARMWOOD

2014

WR

6-2

185

Gallon busted on the scene a few summers ago at USF’s annual 7 on 7 Sling and Shoot tournament.  Then, a promising rising junior, Gallon showed speed, athletic ability and great ball skills.  Fast forward to his senior season and Gallon is a more seasoned player, slightly stronger, faster and focused.  He is an intricate part of the Armwood offense that is scoring 40 points per game.  Gallon is a long striding receiver that can play either inside or outside.  Good speed, soft hands and plays the ball well in the air.  He is not the flashy type.  Would rather, catch the football, score the touchdown and hand the football to the referee.  His impact on the Armwood passing game will really be felt as the season grows.

JOSH MARRERO

JEFFERSON

2014

OT/DT

6-3

305

Jefferson is known for their high scoring, high flying offensive attack. A defense that is always in attack mode and takes chances.  Their skill players usually highlight the roster and garnish most of the media and recruiting attention.  This year, the offensive line has really made the difference in the early success of the Jefferson Dragons.  A young unit years ago, now has developed into the strength of the offense.  Josh Marrero is the anchor.  Doubles as a defensive tackle, Josh protects the blindside of Jefferson QB, Deiondre Porter.  He shows good feet, the ability to pull from the tackle position and runs fairly well up field.  A big body kid who has worked extremely hard to increase his flexibility and plays with a lower pad level.  In order for Porter to continue to have success behind center, Marrero will need to continue to play well.

GENO HARRINGTON

JEFFERSON

2014

DT

6-2

285

Geno is a boy dog!  Ranked as one of our top defensive tackles in the area, he is really, really good.  Very quick takeoff from the line of scrimmage, physical at the point of attack and great with his hands.  The Jefferson defense is designed to shoot gaps and force disruption in the offensive backfield. They are tradionally a blitz heavy defense that will come from every green section on the playing field.  The defensive line has allowed the Dragons the ability to be more creative with their blitz package and secondary coverages.  Geno is the man in the middle that attracts double teams, splits double teams or gets a good push to allow blitzing backers to come clean.
