SPRING CAPSULES THE BOX

All the action from the King spring jamboree cluster

Tampa Bay Tech took down Wharton 14-0 in a mistake filled half for the Wildcats. Without quarterback Chase Litton (hand injury) Wharton used a number of different alignments to try to get the ball in the hands of their playmakers.

Vernon Hargreaves III, Wharton 2013 DB – The top player in Tampa Bay did what he does best. He led the Wildcats with 10-plus tackles, made an incredible interception and even played some quarterback. It’s no surprise why he’s one the most sought after players in the country.

JT Thompkins, Tampa Bay Tech 2013 RB – Acting as the feature back for the Titans, Thompkins showed his speed and quickness making defenders miss all night long. He broke free and scored on a 40-yard touchdown run and was effective rushing between the tackles as he has good vision with the ability to read his blockers.

Deon Cain, Tampa Bay Tech 2015 QB – The rising sophomore put himself on the map tonight. Cain is a solid dual-threat QB who scored on a 6-yard run late in the second quarter.

Antonio Guerad, Tampa Bay Tech 2013 DE/TE – What an animal Guerad is. He probably earned himself another three scholarship offers tonight as he dominated off the edge and even had a catch. Guerad is quick of the ball, has great hands and body movement – he moves well in space. Coaches are so confident in his ability in space that they drop him back and use him in zone coverages.

Jevon Fripp, Tampa Bay Tech 2013 OL/DL – A big boy in the middle Fripp is quickly turning into a top nose guard prospect in Tampa Bay. Weighing just shy of 290 pounds Fripp moves well and has good upper body strength. He is a load to move and requires two blockers each play. He could also turn into a solid center prospect as he bends extremely well and stands about 6-1. He’ll play center this year.

Micah Tucker, Tampa Bay Tech 2014 DE/LB – Tucker put himself on the map a little bit tonight as well. He played strong coming off the ends and made a number of plays in the backfield. At 6-2 Tucker has a nice frame to build on and could turn into a solid prospect.

Tyree St. Luis, Tampa Bay Tech 2015 OL – Another one of those freshman prospects that will absolutely blow up. At freshman, St. Luis stands a legitimate 6-feet 5-inches tall and weighs around 270 pounds. He has a lot to learn but head coach Jayson Roberts says he has made tremendous strides this offseason to improve his footwork.

“He lives in the weight room,” Roberts said. “He even comes in during off days. His biggest improvement has been in his footwork.”

King defeated Freedom 12-0 in a lightning shortened spring jamboree which ended with 0:02 left in the first quarter. Freedom made a lot of mistakes and looked demoralized midway through the first quarter. King registered a safety and recovered two fumbles.

Nate Godwin, Freedom 2013 DB – Godwin has continued to improve his footwork and has expanded his game to a viable college corner option. Godwin’s biggest attribute is his physicality. He probably projects best as a strong safety because of that physicality.

Isaac Tanner, Freedom 2013 LB – Tanner continues to improve and position himself well to land his first offer. Interest has swirled around the 6-10 210 pound linebacker, but he has put in the work this offseason and should see some action soon.

Scott Patcham, Freedom 2015 DL – Talk about a high ceiling. A 6-5 200 pound freshman, Patcham looked great against King. He has good control of his long, lean body. He’ll play defensive end for the Patriots and likely be a pain for just about every OT he faces.

Max Orr, Freedom 2013 LB – Orr adds to a very strong Freedom defensive front. He too has a desirable linebacker frame standing 6-2 200 pounds.

Travion Wallace, Freedom 2013 DL – Another 6-5 defensive lineman, Wallace is close to 280 pounds and would develop into one of the top defensive ends in the class.

Brandon Harris, King 2013 DB – Harris impressed a number of small schools who were taking in the jamboree tonight. Harris has good movement and closing speed. At 5-10 175 he is a little lean, but it doesn’t show when he comes downhill and blows up the play.

Javontee Brice, King 2014 RB/WR – A track star, Brice brings a lot of speed to the table. He too is lean, weighing around 170 pounds, but he has a nice frame at 5-11 and has a lot of quickness.

Taylor Donnell, King 2014 WR/DB – Donnell scored the lone touchdown of the weather-shortened game. A short run off the left side of the line after the Lions recovered a Patriots’ fumble. He is a smaller skill player but showed some flashes of speed

Tyrone Gonzales, 2013 LB/RB – He has a nice build at 6-0 190 and showcased his physical skills. He has good downhill closing speed and filled gaps well.
