Aguayo Named ACC Specialist of the Week

The sophomore kicker was 4-for-4 on field goals at Wake Forest.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Sophomore placekicker Ricky Aguayo was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Specialist of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon. Aguayo, from Mascotte, Fla., was 4-for-4 on field goals and made both extra points against Wake Forest Saturday, accounting for 14 points in FSU’s 26-19 win in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Aguayo’s first kick of the day, from 51 yards, set a career-high, four yards longer than his previous best. Aguayo added three more field goals in the game, including a game-tying kick with 6:20 remaining. Aguayo has made his past eight field goals, all coming in the past two weeks. He is the third kicker in FSU history, and the first since Sebastian Janikowski in 1998, to make at least eight field goals in a two-game span.

Aguayo leads the ACC and is fourth nationally with 2.67 made field goals per game. The eight consecutive made field goals is the longest stretch for an FSU kicker since Roberto Aguayo made 23 straight in 2013-14.

Aguayo was also recognized as one of the Lou Groza Award “Stars of the Week.”

This is the second career Specialist of the Week honor for Aguayo. He earned his first after his Seminole debut in 2016, when he was 6-for-6 on field goals with 21 points scored against No. 11 Ole Miss.

Florida State hosts rival Miami Saturday at 3:30 p.m. The game will air live on ESPN.
