E7TC MVP’s Confirmed – Jaquan Heirs

Our running backs MVP, Jaquan Heirs is about to enter the second half of his career at Largo following a sophomore season that was productive on both sides. While Heirs may have potential at the safety position, his frame at 5-feet-9 inches and 184-pounds is enticing when you see some of his film playing running back last season.

WHAT WAS SAID:
“RB – Jacquan Heirs (Largo) – Class of 2018
Heirs is one of several Packers to make a splash during the course of the day and is looking to contribute in an even bigger fashion in 2016 after a 2015 totaling 257 yards on 54 carries and a touchdown. Heirs also plays defense posting 44 tackles, and interception and four passes defensed, but where he made his mark in the RB group was his excellent pass pro technique and overall was just a beast in terms of competitive spirit. Heirs’ favorite aspect of today was? “The intensity–and the competition.”

WHAT THE ‘EYE IN THE SKY’ SAID:
Just what we wanted to see from him at the camp–he’s may be a safety, but we specifically wanted to see him at the running back spot after seeing some things on film last season. Heirs was fantastic in his pass protection drills and was surprisingly better than he was even expected to be in his vision and movement with his feet.

THE IMPACT:
As alluded in his quote, Heirs is an insanely competitive individual and was even more critical of himself than we could have been following his performance. Heirs was genuinely disappointed–or shall we say irritated–that he didn’t get enough reps even though he was taking reps from other guys all day long. That kind of work ethic may have a bigger impact than is actual play on the field since Largo’s problem isn’t for lack of talent surrounding him. That sort of drive and leadership capability is something they need up-and-down their roster and could translate into even more positive results come the fall. Heirs’ versatility gives the Packers an even better option than the one they had in the form of John Clark–who was MVP of the running backs at last year’s E7TC ironically.
