Admiral Farragut’s Motto may be “Don’t Give Up The Ship” but even the greatest commanders must know when to concede defeat. There were no words to describe the blank stares on the faces and that was midway through the 1st Quarter. Personnel groups were in a state of mass confusion, penalties committed that weren’t the entire season and special teams play that made even USF blush. Simply put, Admiral Farragut was completely swallowed up by the enormousness of the moment. Blown out of the water.
Credit to where credit is due. North Florida Christian’s uniforms looked like they were straight out of the Under Armour All-American Game and each and every one of them played like they were a part of that squad. The Eagles looked like the Big Bend All Stars never leaving a shadow of a doubt in the minds of the 1, 328 fans in attendance from the opening kickoff. North Florida Christian now ties Glades Day for most state titles with seven at the expense of the Blue Jackets. Simple things like formations, tackling, substitutions proved to be too much for Farragut to deal with.
At the half, North Florida Christian’s QB Matt Dobson was 7-8 for 200 yards and 3 TD’s. He had also rushed for one more as well. The Eagles racked up a total of 467 yards to Farragut’s 121. NFC actually ran 8 plays less than the Blue Jackets as well. Farragut’s bug guns of Napoleon Maxwell, Rayshawn Jenkins, and Todd Macon were held to less than 35 yards a piece. The three combined for 77 yards on 26 carries. Several times you saw Farragut defenders turned the wrong way or allowing themselves to get leveraged exactly where NFC wanted them.
Can’t say enough about the job that Head Coach Chris Miller has done with Farragut though. Their representation for Pinellas County may not have worked out like they wanted it, but they made to Orlando nonetheless. It may be a tough pill to swallow and one that requires more than one glass of water to wash it down. If anything it’s a learning experience and one that Farragut will bring back to St. Petersburg with them. Tough to say which way they’ll go, but the ship will get put into dry dock, it’s hull patched up and its gun turrets repaired. The Blue Jackets finish the season at 12-2 while North Florida Christian wraps up their first undefeated season in their storied history.
