2015 Hawk, ready to force contribution

Byron Cowart
Armwood 2015 DE

Armwood has historically been the factory for manufacturing imposing division 1 football defensive lineman. Torrey Davis (Florida), Ryne Giddins (South Florida), Sheldon Lewinson (Wake Forrest) to name a few; The Hawk defensive line has traditionally been the strength of the defensive unit. Speed, strength, tenacity and a relentless attack on opposing ball carriers, has allowed the Armwood defense to be arguably the best in the state of Florida each year.

Byron Cowart has the opportunity to be the next remarkable defensive lineman to play for the Armwood Hawks. As a freshman, Cowart saw playing time here and there for the “Unofficial 6A State Champions.” The 6-5/245lbs monster has already attracted the eye of numerous college scouts. But, admits that he is nowhere near reaching his ceiling. “I am just staying humble. I want to get faster, learn the playbook and get stronger this summer,” says Cowart.

WHAT THIS ALL MEANS
As much as Cowart wants to be successful on the football field and win a state championship where he feels like he made a more significant contribution, the rising sophomore wants to attend and graduate college. “It would mean so much to my family when I graduate college.” The reason being, Byron is an only child and for him to accomplish such a goal would mean the world to his mother.

ALL THE CONTROVERSY
Cowart says the FHSAA investigation and ruling has disappointed the Armwood family, but has not stopped their grind. “We will keep pushing,” Cowart stated.

2012
Armwood has a legitimate chance at winning the 6A state title again. The offensive and defensive line will need the most repairing. All five starters on the offensive line have departed due to graduation and the defensive line loses two of three starters. Although the offensive and defensive lines are the biggest concerns, Alvin Bailey and Darryl Richardson are back, along will some new starters such as Austin Gallon (WR) that will be an impact player. Leon McQuay and Kyle Gibbons will be the quarterbacks on defense and depend on production from Cowart to keep the fearless Hawks defense the strength of the team.
