Knights tame the Lions

Tampa – Robinson Knights ran 80 offensive plays compared to 36 for the Lions and scored 17 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to pull away after the Lions had fought back to close within 22-17. The final score was 39-17 in this district 6A-8 contest.

Robinson was led offensively by workhorse sophomore running back Anfernee Alston with 37 carries for 200 yards and two touchdowns, bruising senior running back Aivory Foster with 17 carries for 115 yards and two touchdowns, and junior quarterback Malik Tyson who went 7-for-12 for 120 yards including a 28-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Iyan Mitchell who had 3 catches for 57 yards. Junior Kicker Logan Thomas hit on two of three field goal attempts for 26 and 32 yards.

Defensively, Aivory Foster stood out on that side the ball also with two tackle-for-losses and a fumble recovery and Keldric Preston had a sack, tackle-for-loss, and multiple quarterback pressures. The Robinson D did not give up a pass completion in 10 King pass attempts.

The Lions got touchdowns run of 40 and 45 yards in the second half by speedy junior running back Otis Williams to pull within 22-17 with 9:56 left. Williams finished with 9 carries for 151 yard with the two touchdown including a 58 yard run in the first quarter to set up senior Bader Alhomsi’s 36-yard field goal. The Lions lost three fumbles which the Knights turned into 14 points.

King got defensive contributions by senior defensive end Gabriel Luyanda who had a sack and tackle-for-loss and junior defensive back Delvin Austin who added an interception and a blocked an extra point.

Next up for Robinson (2-5) is to host Chamberlain (2-5) and for King (3-4) is to travel to Jefferson (3-3).
