Young Terrier looks to improve at E7

The Hillsborough Terriers are coming off a three-lose season, where they fell once to Plant and twice to Armwood – the Hawks eliminated Hillsborough from the second round of the playoffs.

Hillsborough lost a lot of offensive firepower to graduation, including QB Jeremy Agrinzonis who threw for nearly 1,200 yards. The Terriers are however in a position to reload.

Rising sophomore Dwayne Lawson is in the mix for the starting job with fellow rising sophomore James Pensyl. Lawson (6’ 5” 205lbs) will look to fine tune is skills this weekend at the Big County Preps E7 Skills Training Camp.

Pensyl was with the varsity squad as a freshman while Lawson was with the junior varsity team so he is trying to make up ground.

“He came in before me so I had to work my way up,” Lawson said. “When I came in I was a little behind. I just had to catch up.”

He has good football blood in his family. Lawson is the cousin of Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Mike Williams – who got Lawson involved with football at a young age.

“I started when I was three, playing for a YMCA team in St. Pete, coached by my cousin Mike Williams,” Lawson explained he played WR at first before moving around and playing LB, RB and eventually finding his place behind center.

“I played a lot of positions, but QB really stuck.”

Lawson is young and hungry. He doesn’t know exactly what to expect at the E7 Skills Training Camp, but he knows he wants to get better. He wants to learn new ways to get better on his own.

“I’m hoping I can learn stuff and get information on stuff I can do at home to get better,” he said. “I want to learn drills I can go out and do on my own at home. I just want to learn stuff that I can do on my own to get better.”

He’ll continue to work on his overall game, but is focusing on his footwork and speed most this offseason.

E7 will be Lawson’s second camp experience. He attended camp at the University of Miami where he competed amongst 150 high school prospects looking to make a name for themselves.

“It was crazy just being out there with so many players,” Lawson said after he worked out with an estimated 25 quarterbacks. “It was a good experience and now I’m just trying to get better.”

As far as E7, Lawson says, “I’m looking forward to it, I know that for sure.”
