“You get what you put in” – Shawn O’Gorman, Weeki Wachee

Shawn O'GormanShawn O’Gorman, Weeki Wachee High ATH (RB, FS) 2016 5-8/170 pounds is not the biggest, tallest, fastest or most elusive. But he is tough as nails, gritty, unselfish, quick and bullish. You may not have heard of him if you live outside of Hernando County. This will be a great introduction.

Shawn is a 2014 BCP E7 Training Camp standout. His performance earned him a spot at the summer showcase, Xecutives, sponsored by Bright House Sports Network and presented by Big County Preps. At both events we were able to observe Shawn at his best working drills, route running and his competitive nature.

He caught our eye and made us do more film evaluation and determine his character. The interview below reveals many of the great personal characteristics of Shawn.

What goals were set by the team at the conclusion of the 2013 season?
SHAWN: Most importantly at the end of the 2013 season, we wanted to come together as a team. During the 2013 season, we had to many “individuals” and cliques throughout the team, and the results showed, coming up short late in at least 3 games. And, also the obvious goal to work hard to increase our 3-7 record from our previous 2 varsity seasons.

What has been the team message throughout the summer?
SHAWN: I feel as the team message this summer is “You get what you put in”. We are now holding more players accountable unlike we did in the past. We clearly know that when you put sub-par work in you get 3-7 results. No one likes losing 7 games in a season. Also, to get everyone working, not just a few players but like I said holding all players accountable to give their max effort weather it’s conditioning or lifting.

What team will be your toughest opponent and what will the team need to do to secure a win?
SHAWN: Our toughest opponent we will play this year is the returning district champs South Sumpter. They are a very smart team and play together extremely well. We will need to execute when the time comes, and come up big on defense causing 3 and outs.

What player do you think will be your toughest challenge as an individual?
SHAWN: I think there are two players that will challenge me this year, Deshawn Smith of Nature Coast, and Daniel Wright of Springstead. I want to lead Hernando in rushing this year. Both of them are great players, I’m looking forward to the competition.

What have you learned about the recruiting process this offseason?
SHAWN: I have learned that it takes hard work and great results on the field to earn a scholarship, but also it only takes one little mistake for one to get pulled or for a university to turn away.

What schools are recruiting you the hardest?
SHAWN: The only school that I have been in contact with recently is USF. Coach Lockette and I have had a few conversations over the past couple months and I love the direction USF is going with their football program . Also been told by FAU and Georgia State they will keep their eye on me this season.

What are your strength and weakness?
SHAWN: I would say my strengths are my quickness, my vision, and my versatility that I can play many positions on the field. I would say my weakness’s are my ability to read coverages as a slot receiver
