Recruiting today is drastically different from the 80’s and even the 90’s. The best prospects are glorified and publicized often on a large scale. They basically become celebrities in front of our eyes or in the social media era, in front of our computers and mobile devices. They receive a large amount of attention because of their athletic ability. More so than ever before. With all the attention and glorification, it is easy for a young, impressionable, immature high school athlete to become self absorbed and lose focus on the team. His work ethic evaporates, attitude bubbles and play begins to be spotty.

With that said, Scott Patchan (Freedom 2015 DE) is a recent University of Miami commit that has verbal offers from dozens of major universities. He is a well known, statewide athlete and has dominated the competition in and out of pads. With all the attention, what made him a popular prospect, continues to make him a better player.

As Sunshine Preps was cutting spring highlights of Scott, he did not take ONE play off. He hustled as if he was trying to make the varsity team instead of a seasoned, veteran leader of the varsity squad.
