What’s a Sleeper WR look like?

So, you think you are a sleeper WR? Good enough to play at the college level, but you are not receiving much attention. Why not?

There could be a couple of reasons, but we will focus on what the coaches are looking for and what will put the recruiters to sleep.

SLEEP TIME: What will not open eyes
– No yards after catch
– Letting the ball come down in the air
– Not blocking
– lack of ability to break tackles
– scared to catch the ball in traffic

WAKE UP WAKE UP: Now we talking
– Out jumping defenders
– Yards after catch. Turning a 6 yard reception into a 40 yard gain.
– Catching the ball in traffic
– Balance on the sideline after the catch
– High pointing the ball in the air
– Out running defenders
– Aggressive run blocking
– Red Zone threat
– Solid route running
– Explosive start
– Finding the open window
– Continuos work to get open vs man to man coverage

Coaches want to see players make plays out of the ordinary. Catching a 5 yard hitch and getting tackled, happens all the time. Catching the ball and runnning out of bounds is normal. Sleepers and high value prospects have the “Wow” factor. Do you have it?  Below is a great example of a SLEEPER WR prospect!
