50-35 was the final in this game saturated with highlights. 85 total points lit up the score board at George Jenkins High School. Winter Haven jumped back on the bus and departed as the victor and feeling good about their game vs Evans. With entertainment value high, we also learn a lot about each team.
- George Jenkins has started off the season 0-3. However, their early season schedule is as difficult has it gets. Their loses came to 3 teams, that at one point were all ranked in the Sweet 16 (Lake Gibson, Lake Wales and Winter Haven). The Eagles are not as bad as their record says.
- QUENSHON MILLER, JENKINS 2014 RB is an extremely hard runner. If Jenkins can keep him healthy and figure out a way to get him the ball other than at the top of the I formation, he can provide more explosive plays for the Eagle offense.
- DARIAN MILLS, WINTER HAVEN 2014 ATH is an adequate threat at QB for Winter Haven. He provides a true running threat and throws the ball well enough to keep the defense honest. If the pocket collapses, he doesnt hesitate to get out of there. When asked, he will sit in the pocket and make a good pass. As long as Mills continues to develop, Winter Haven has a chance to win out.
- The most explosive player on the field was KENDRICK HOLLAND, WINTER HAVEN 2014 WR. He is big. He is fast and he provides a safety net for QB Darian Mills. He will usually have a size advantage over any secondary he faces and he is physical enough to get free vs press coverage. Holland makes everything look so easy. Smooth runner and good routes.
- Winter Haven depth at running back showed last night. Four different running backs touched the ball versus Jenkins. Already down starting RB D’Angelo Gaines, Keland White and KENDRICK ROBERTSON, WINTER HAVEN 2016 RB carried the load. White fell to injury late in the second quarter, leaving Robertson to have a big game. Kendrick was a workhorse for the Blue Devils showing his ability to run between and outside the tackles.
- Winter Haven will be tested this week vs Evans, with Lake Gibson and Kathleen still remaining on their schedule. The defense needs to improve. They have allowed 91 points this season which is extremely too much in three ball games.
- Jenkins is not a power team. They do not have the offensive line to push teams around. However, they may thrive from incorporating the screens more often. Jenkins was at their best in the hurry up offense where Jaylen Odum QB was able to get the ball out of his hands and did not need to read the defense.
