Under the radar prospects, rip 9 Route

Spencer Preston, Newsome

TALVIN BAILEY, Armwood
Is becoming a bigger name than when the summer started. His solid performance continued at 9 Route. Is becoming the “Go to”, deep threat, short homerun hitter that Armwood will need him to be. At 9 Route, he performed as expected. Showed his speed, hands and agility.

TODD SIMS, Spoto
Spoto has some grit and some grind. Behind Todd Sims, this group has a chance to be good. He showed his gamesmanship, athleticism and really opened eyes. When Spoto needed a play to be made, Sims had his number called and came through in the clutch.

MALIK HUFF, Gaither
One of the smallest players on the field, showed the most heart. Earlier in Day one, I asked a Gather fan “Who is #14?”  Their response was, “Malik Huff. You will be hearing it a lot this year.” I hope this is true. Huff is quick and very elusive. Made play after play and earned the trust of quarterback Alex McGough.

JUSTIN MOTLOW, Tampa Catholic
Surprisingly, Motlow led Tampa Catholic in receiving yards and TDs last year. Doesn’t strike you as a stud until you see him play. Soft hands, great body control and field awareness. He and QB Kyle Ploucher seem to have developed a great working relationship and were in sync at 9 Route.

SPENCER PRESTON, Newsome
Will Worth would be proud to see how Preston performed at 9 Route. Newsome won games at 9 Route, the same way they won games in the 2012 season…misdirection and great QB play. The Wolves have a great chance to make a run AGAIN with Preston behind center. He showed effectiveness, efficiency and leadership. Was not afraid of the big moment.

KIJANA GAINES, Frostproof
Twin brother, Kaleel Gaines and younger brother Xavier Gaines grab most of the headlines for Frostproof. But, Kijana made a name for himself at 9 Route. He was all over the field on both sides of the ball while showing a very competitive attitude; Talented, athletic and takes chances.
