UCF to face Austin Peay on Oct. 28 at Spectrum Stadium.

ORLANDO ( – UCF Vice President and Director of Athletics Danny White announced Thursday that the Knights’ football program has added a sixth home game and an 11th game this season. UCF had been forced to call off two games earlier this season due to Hurricane Irma.

UCF’s home contest with Georgia Tech was called off, while the Memphis game was eventually rescheduled for Sept. 30 and forced the home matchup with Maine to be cancelled. That left the Knights with just 10 games and only five home games.

Since Hurricane Irma’s passing, White and UCF officials have been working to add a home game to take the place of Maine. The NCAA approved a waiver Thursday for Austin Peay to add a game to its schedule and visit UCF on Oct. 28. Kickoff time and broadcast information for the Knights-Governors matchup will be announced at a later date.

“I can’t thank Oliver Luck and the staff at the NCAA enough for their help and understanding of our situation,” White said. “We greatly appreciate Austin Peay being willing to visit Spectrum Stadium. We’re thrilled for our student-athletes, who deserve every opportunity they can get to go out and compete. I know our fans will be excited about the opportunity to have another Saturday at Spectrum Stadium.”

UCF head coach Scott Frost echoed White’s sentiments.

“Our guys work really hard for the payoff of a finite number of games. Losing two of those was going to be tough for them,” Frost said. “I know our fans would have been disappointed as well. I give tons of credit to Danny White and our administration for the effort they put in to give our student-athletes another opportunity to go out and compete in front of our great fans.”
