Top Week 1 games, prospects to watch

Tavon Cox, Haines City
Tavon Cox, Haines City

Haines City at Winter Haven – Are the Hornets for real? Or will Winter Haven bring them back down to earth? Haines City put 50 points on the board in the preseason classic before the game was canceled. Winter Haven is as talented as any team around and coming off an 11-2 season in 2012.

EYE ON: Tavon Cox, Haines City OLB 2015 6-3/200 – Long player who will be a big impact for the Hornets this season. Major season could mean major prospect.

Jefferson at Alonso – We think Jefferson is freaking good. We also think also think Alonso will get better as the season goes. An Alonso win would be huge for the confidence of the program. A Jefferson win will state the obvious. Good contest!

EYE ON: Chavez Pownell, Jefferson CB 2014 5-10/185 – Best CB with little attention. Aggressive, fast, instinctive…is a lock down CB with D1 talent.

Jenkins at Lake Gibson – Jenkins has more talent than outsiders expect. Lake Gibson is the top team in the area. Big clash here and there is no doubt Polk County bragging rights are on the line. Skill players highlight each team and they will produce in this contest.

EYE ON: Laddarian Bowman, George Jenkins DB 2014 6-0/180 – Smooth defensive player with a lot of upside and good size. Plays the ball well in the air and knows what to do with the ball in his hands.

Lakewood at Countryside – Lakewood gets their first game of the season vs a team everyone in Pinellas expected to play better in the preseason classic, Countryside. A high flying show from South St. Pete will travel to Countryside; no tune up for either team. Lakewood has state championship expectations and Countryside will put up a fight.

EYE ON: Brujoun Bonner, Lakewood S 2014 6-1/180 – Jumped on to the scene last season, making big hits and getting to the ball. Long arms, lots of height and no fear, Bonner will be a steal for a division 1 program.

Madison County at Tampa Catholic – Madison County is the 2012 state 3A runner up. Tampa Catholic has pieces to create the winning puzzle. Fair and evenly matched ball game. Tampa Catholic has to start fast as Madison County has the ability to produce points quickly.

EYE ON: Justin, Motlow, Tampa Catholic 2014 slot – The unsung hero of the Crusader team. Sure handed, good game speed and makes plays. His teammates and coaches rave about his ability and niche for turning short passes into long TDs.

Middleton at Berkeley Prep – Will Berkeley’s coaching experience be their advantage or will Middleton be able to use their athleticism to be victorious? Middleton’s program is thirsting for a victory that will erect the team back to the early 2000’s status. Berkeley expects nothing less than a playoff run. What’s going to give?

EYE ON: Brad Mayes, Berkeley Prep QB 2015 6-0/185 – Has attended several BCP events, showing lots of skill and maturity. Throws the ball as good as any QB around. Gaining plenty of college attention.

Sickles at Robinson – Our Game of the Week. 10 total Ignite and E7 prospects between the two teams. Both teams have ample amount of skill. Both teams are playoff contenders. Both teams have question marks at positions that are needing to be answered. Great match up.

EYE ON: Michael Duclos, Robinson RB 2015 5-6/211 – Has been on our radar since his freshman season. Work horse, tough player and holds a number of attributes to make him an attractive prospect
