Defense, Defense, Defense. Championship teams have a real good one. In the heart of a good or great defense is a tenacious linebacker. The backers set the tone and create the mentality of the entire unit.
Making tackles starts with attitude. Not much is fun about meeting a ball carrier full force in the A-Gap. Not much is fun getting pushed around by a few blockers and then attempting to tackle a 200 pound running back on the outside of hash marks. Football players have to want to throw their body around and bring down the ball carrier.
Of the top 15 players listed below, six attended Hillsborough county schools; four from Pinellas County Schools and three players from Pasco County Schools. Clearwater Central Catholic has three players listed. 5 of 15 players below had 14 or more tackles and four players had 20 or more TFLs.
At the top of the list is Plant senior LB Micah McFadden. In six games this season McFadden has posted double-digit solo tackles. He has also posted at least one TFL in all but one game this season.
