Three Things We Love About Berkeley Prep’s Xavier Perkins

Tampa, FL – A 6-4 sophomore defensive end from Berkeley Prep is registered to attend our Training Camp on February 21st. Viewing the registration list of defensive players, we clicked on Xavier Perkins. Berkeley always has a few good prospects and to our surprise, this sophomore jumped off the screen.

Quicks – For a sophomore, Perkins gets a great jump on the ball. Love his burst and the way he attacks the appropriate shoulder of the passer. In the following film, over and over you will see Perkins get off the ball almost before the offensive linemen can get into his pass set or comes off the ball to block in the run game.

“Great attitude. Tremendous worker. Great teammate, high motor and can rush the passer. Made some big plays for us last year.”

— Dominick Ciao, Berkeley Prep Head Football Coach

COD (Change of Direction) – If a player struggles to change directions, he will struggle to make plays. Watching larger, longer players change directions stand out like a pink elephant. This kid can do it. He has a motor and fits perfectly with his athleticism.

Sure Tackler – Some players can get into the backfield, but fail to bring down the ball carrier. We love how Perkins can work his way past the line of scrimmage with his head up, find the ball, and bring down the target. Whether he is sacking the quarterback or running down a running back, Perkins is a really good tackler.
