HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY RECRUITING

The Mailbag for this week

JJ: Is Leon McQuay still visiting Notre Dame?

BCP: I spoke with the McQuay family and their intentions are to take an official visit in the fall if they don’t make it to South Bend this summer. The following weeks are very busy for McQuay with Rivals100, IMG 7on7, The Opening and another 7on7 Tourney. As of right now, the plan is to make an official visit in the fall. Lots of time left, but USC, Vanderbilt and Michigan and Mcquay’s favorites. We know how fast things can change.

Michael: If a student athelete has several verbal offers from a variety of colleges and interested in one particular school, can he request a written commitment?

BCP: Hopefully I answer your question. But, if I am understanding your question correctly: If an athlete has offers from 30 schools, but wants an offer from school X, which he does not have, can he request an offer from that school? Sure, but it doesn’t work like that. Just because an athlete is interested in a school, does not mean a school will be interested in that athlete. Commitments are not written. Official scholarship offers are written and are sent to the athlete on September 1st of the athlete’s senior year.

Let me go back. The athlete can express his interest in a particular school, in hopes of that particular school returning the favor in form of a verbal or official scholarship offer (depending on class of athlete and other variables).
