The 2016 E7 Spring Primer

11148687_10152961287509024_4098258555607145595_nThe action comes to Lakeland this Sunday as over 200 prospects from ten counties look to keep their current momentum or perhaps create a new identity for themselves as the offseason progresses. There are plenty of “high-profile” names per usual, but there’s also plenty of competitors ready to snatch the shine away from those guys and do-the-damn-thing as only they can. Some guys are signed up for positions that they don’t play with regularity during the season in preparation for the next level. Here now, is a quick primer to get you started for the weekend.

There are 212 players on the roster for the camp, with 109 of those coming from the Class of 2017, 81 from the class of 2018, and 21 players hailing from the Class of 2019. There are 114 players signed up for an offensive position while 98 have signed up for defensive positions. Juxtaposed with the numbers from Ignite back in January, there were 107 offensive players and 103 defensive players.

As mentioned, there are ten different counties represented at the camp. Five of the counties lie within the BCP coverage area with nobody from Hernando County registered. Although peculiar in-nature, we expect to see the E7 Summer series loaded with kids from the Nature Coast region when the event is held in Pasco County in addition to this time of season there is a concentration on 7-on-7 as well as visitation season for prospects to colleges holding spring games. Translation–it’s a busy time of year and there will be more chances to make it happen.

There are 82 kids signed up representing Hillsborough County, while Polk County will be rolling-deep with 42 kids registered for the event. Pinellas County checks-in just behind Polk with 39 prospects making their way across the water. Pasco County is well-represented with 31 players and Manatee County will send 8 players to the event this Sunday. Other counties represented are Brevard County with four prospects including three from powerhouse Cocoa, Sarasota County with three prospects, and the counties of Lee, Orange and Hardee all sending one prospect each to Lakeland.

10527915_10152961285284024_7100848118716728101_nLast year’s event was highly-competitive with Plant’s Felipe Fernandez taking home MVP honors for the O-Lineman, while Largo’s John Clark won the running backs MVP award. Tampa Catholic’s Noah Carlson was the winner of the the wide receivers group while TBT’s Michael Penix Jr won the QB’s highest honor as a sophomore. Countryside’s Chris Barrett was the tight end’s MVP while Largo’s Javaris Sanders won the award for the D-Lineman. Plant City’s Steven Ogletree was your linebackers MVP while Marchalo Judge and Brandon Drayton were your DB and CB MVP’s respectively.

As always, you can expect the different groups to be put through their paces with intensity, and you can expect the QB’s and WR’s to have to face a little adversity as a stiff crosswind will be expected throughout the day and adjustments will be on the order. Although he plays QB during the season for Armwood, vastly-talented ATH Darrian McNeal will be testing his skills at the safety position along with Plant City’s Antoine Thompson–who in the past has shined as a wide receiver will be playing at the cornerback position. We will get to see the highly-accurate guys like Manatee’s AJ Colagiovanni, Tampa Catholic’s Austin Sessums and Winter Haven’s William Tate get put to the test along with QB’s with big frames and big arms such as Dixie Hollins’ Chaddrick Cann Jr or CCC’s Jakob Parks.

Jesuit’s Malik Davis and Cambridge Christian’s Andrew Cunningham highlight the stiff competition plus we know guys like Hillsborough’s Duran Bell Jr. and Fort Meade’s Stephon Fulse Jr. will show up to push them–and push them in a major way. IMG’s Tre’ McKitty, Plant’s Judge Culpepper and Durant’s Steven Witchoskey certainly add pedigree to the tight ends grouping that always has a name or player that turns heads at these events. Intriguingly enough, Mitchell’s QB Larry DallaBetta will be a member of this grouping as he prepares for a possible position switch at the collegiate level. He’s been putting in some serious work this offseason at the spot, so that makes this group even more exciting to watch.

11138565_10152961281559024_9063521945685248152_nPlant’s Juwan Burgess and CCC’s Armari Burney will be in-action this Sunday and will get to show us their power-five talent at the wide receiver and safety positions respectively along with DE Bobby Roundtree out of Largo who is seemingly picking up offers on the daily. Manatee’s Garrett Ware is switching from TE to Linebacker and he’s a part of a solid group with guys like Armand Chalk from Hillsborough and Dakota Trice from Brandon–and of course we couldn’t forget about Plant City’s Stephen Ogletree.

We can’t forget about the big fellas along the offensive line and a few of those guys that are expected to show us a little somethin’-somethin’ are Clearwater’s Zachary Hauschild, and a pair of Countryside Cougars in the form of Ethan Gemma and Gordon Sandorf. Make sure you get there early and get yourselves a nice spot. These boys will handle all of the rest. See you there on Sunday!
