TEAMS ADDED TO SMALL SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS – FHSAA Board of Directors Recap For January Meeting

GAINESVILLE, FL (1/29/18) – The Florida High School Athletic Association’s Board of Directors conducted their third meeting of the 2017-18 school year Monday in Gainesville.

 

The Board voted unanimously to add two teams per region to the Class 1A-4A football playoffs. Beginning with the 2018 season, six teams will qualify from each region for football’s 1A-4A state series. The first round will have the third seed hosting the sixth seed and the fourth seed hosting the fifth seed, with the top two seeds receiving byes.

In addition, the Board also unanimously voted to make the golf season a 16-contest regular season.

 

Lastly, Board member Hershel Lyons, who serves as the Chancellor of K-12 Public Schools for the Florida Department of Education, announced that this past year saw the highest graduation rate in 14 years for high schools in the state of Florida. He also publicized an art and essay contest the FDOE is running to celebrate Black History Month in February.
