On a night that was overshadowed by the advancement of Plant and Armwood going to consecutive state title games and the 4A state championship being played about 70 miles down interstate 4, Hillsborough County held its own battle of the stars.
The annual Hillsborough County All Star game played out like a regular season battle. There were plenty of fireworks, a few skirmishes and some animated coaches. But, at the end, the East Side claimed victory.
The contest would trade scores until late in the the 3rd when Gaither’s, Paul Perello hit a 43 yard field goal to knot the game at 13. The 4th quarter belonged to East QB, Nick Fabrizio who rushed for 38 of his 98 yards on 6 attempts in the 4th quarter. The East Stars would start the 4th quarter, putting together a killer drive, taking 4 mins off the clock and scoring with a beautiful reverse to Darius Page from 5 yards out making the score 20-13 East (after the extra point).

The West would try to make a run, but East defense clamped down, got the ball back for the offense and Fabrizio put the game out of reach on an 18 yard QB draw with 1:47 left in the game. Nick Fabrizio and Chris Murray were named the 2011 MVPs.

Great Performances
Defense
Derrick Nealy, Alonso, LB – Nealy was all over the place. A hand full of tackles, a sack and just a terror.
Marcus Neuman, Alonso, LB – A great night for Neuman who showed speed and toughness. He was sideline to sideline last night
Alec Maughn, Tampa Catholic, LB – Maughn had a number of solo tackles, but 1 play was text book. Maughn met the West RB head to head in the hole, big collision and kept his feet driving. Excited both sidelines and fans.
Taylor Timmons, Tampa Catholic, DL – Simply put, Timmons was just difficult to stop. He chased QBs, he chased RBs and he ran down field on a mission.
Offense
Chris Murray, King, WR – Just spectacular, MVP
Nick Fabrizio, Durant, QB – TOUGH, MVP
Geronimo Allison, Spoto, WR – The big target showed a variety of skills. Making the athletic big time catch over a defender, catching the short ball and getting yards after the catch and difficult grabs in traffic.
Clunder LeCount, TBT, RB – His stats will not raise an eyebrow, but he really was 1 step away for going 50 yards each carry. Because the defense had to account for him, Fabrizio had a great game.
Greg Windham, King, QB – Windham was sharp. The big strike to Murray at the beginning of the game inflated his stats, but the other balls he threw were also on the money. He also had a ball called back for a penalty, where he was flushed out the pocket, threw the ball across his body for about 30 yards. Great individual effort.
