Sling and Shoot observations

– Local Teams observed on Sunday

Armwood – Hawks from Seffner defeated East Lake to be crowned the 2014 Sling and Shoot 7 on 7 champion. QB Noah Johnson was fantastic. Now throwing the ball with complete confidence and shows the demeanor of being the best player on the field. During the championship game versus East Lake, he was clutch. Making big throws on the biggest stage. Defensive back, Aaron Covington was lock down. Had a tremendous showing versus the Eagles in the championship game and really performed like one of the best defensive backs in the BCP area.

Alonso – Alonso pressed for another championship. The Ravens are getting good at this 7 on 7 thing in hopes that it will make them a better team in the fall. Chris Oladokun threw some magnificent passes, but it was not enough to defeat East Lake in the final 4. Kalvin Clemmons made some pretty grabs and several players made big plays in big moments.

Dunedin – If the hogs up front can match the talent of the skill guys, the Falcons will have a chance. Andrew Gordan (6 foot 6 inches) is a red zone threat on every possession. DT Kame Taylor moves like a tight end and the Falcons have a few slot receivers that snag the ball out the air. East Lake was a little too much for the Falcons, but more so in a “confidence building” way. Jordan Williams is an excellent football player who made plays on both side sod the ball yesterday. Jayven Fitzpatrick moved around very well as a line backer.

East Lake – The Eagles run stopped one score shy of the title. Not to be overlooked was the performance of rising senior QB, Jake Hudson. The second year starter played very well on Sunday and made big throws when the offense needed them most. Jonathan Holley was excellent versus Dunedin and Alonso. The 2015 safety was all over the field and was the thread to the Eagle secondary blanket coverage.

Gulf – “Competitive” would be the best word to describe their performance at Sling and Shoot.  Not a ton of athletes, but a good passing concept.  Not a ton of speed, but in the right place at the right time.  QB Keshaun Peters is a pretty good athlete. Played both QB and safety. Nice size at 6-0ish and good frame.  Will need work with his throwing mechanics, but the ball gets to the receivers with good velocity.

Haines City – A bunch of athletes on both sides of the ball.  The QB is young and inexperienced, but will have plenty of help because of the talent level of the Hornets. Derwin James is the headliner, Tavon Cox will emerge as a big time recruit and a bevy of other skill players made plays on Sunday.
