HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY RECRUITING

Sleep at your own risk on Karmi Mackey

He’s Big County Preps’ number two running back for the Class of 2017, but apparently folks are still missing out on the talent the lies at tiny Seffner Christian Academy. The Crusaders were 6-4 last season and one of their biggest contributors was RB/OLB Karmi Mackey. The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder has been nothing short of spectacular in his time for the Crusaders and even though his numbers are good enough to garner looks from all over the place, something seems to be lost in translation as the bruiser has yet to pick up an offer.

Mackey has been contributing since the moment he stepped on the field for Seffner Christian with 35 carries for 234 yards on the ground with two touchdowns and 16 receptions for 269 yards and three touchdowns as a freshman. When you add his special teams efforts that season, the young man finished with 583 all-purpose yards.

His sophomore season, Mackey was good for 503 yards rushing on sixty carries for an average of 8.4 yards per carry with ten touchdowns along with twenty-four receptions totaling 263 yards and a touchdown. That average per catch was a solid 11.1 yards per and when you add his kickoff and punt returns to the mix, he landed just shy of a thousand all-purpose with 960 yards.

This past season, Mackey only played in eight games yet finished the season with 1,953 yards on 148 carries–good for an average of 13.2 yards per carry with 20 touchdowns. He also caught 14 passes for a total of 180 yards and two touchdowns. Adding his contributions on special teams, he finished the year with 2,196 all-purpose yards.

If you’re going strictly off the numbers, that’s pretty impressive no matter what level of ball you play. Mackey entering his senior season will carry a total 3,739 all-purpose yards, plus 38 touchdowns and a better-than-a-first-down average every time he touches the ball whether it’s the ground game or the passing game. The fact that he doesn’t have any offers may be a bit baffling, but if Mackey continues to produce in his final season as he did this season past, he will leave college coaches little-to-no choice but to give him a shot.
