Jordan Guyton, Robinson

Jordan Guyton, Robinson 2014 LB

Bullet Points

  • led the team in solo tackles (78) in 2012
  • led the team in total tackles (99) in 2012
  • led the team in tackles per game (7.1) in 2012
  • totaled 5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks
  • 2 year varsity starter
  • 3 year varsity contributor

The numbers look great, but the play is better. Guyton is one of the more physical line backers in Hillsborough County. His contact speed is through the rough and ball carriers don’t forget when jersey #47 brings the hat. Versus the run, he steps up in the hole and fills the gap. He is extremely physical and takes on lead blockers. He shows very good hand movement and placement as he is able to get off blocks and pursue the ball. Versus the pass, he shows good hips, gets great depth and reads routes to disrupt passing lanes.

With all his physical attributes, one thing has really helped him take his game to another level. “My confidence elevated to another level when I realized that the only obstacle in my way, was myself. This realization came after the State-semi game last year.” Robinson was eliminated in the class 5A state playoffs after suffering a loss to Tallahassee Godby 24-20 in a game that ended with some controversy. The thriller will forever be remembered as one of the best playoff games to be played in a Hillsborough County stadium.

The loss may have been the best thing to happen to Guyton. Just like any other competitor motivated by defeat, Jordan took his offseason training head on in order to be that much better in 2013 for he senior campaign. Wofford and Presbyterian have really made strong efforts in recruiting Guyton, even after they offered and a good amount of the Ivy League colleges have shown very strong interest in this student athlete.

Tonight starts the 2013 football season. Sickles will travel to Robinson for a game likely to be a battle. Both teams have sound coaching, veteran leaders and athletes all over. Guyton needs this game to continue building his resume’. A dominating performance will keep him in the face of the school that love him already and hopefully catch the attention of some larger division 1 programs.

What has he done as a prospect to force college coaches to take notice? “I have I filled out every single division 1 questionnaire I could find online, multiple times and reached out to coaches in every way… Another thing is my versatility. I play Linebacker and fullback at a high level. I also take care of business in the classroom and solidify the foundation and everything outside of football.”
