Season of Change
While it is true that Hillsborough County will not have a team in any state final games this season after accomplishing this in each of the last 11 years, its not the only FL county that broke a long state finals streak this season. Palm Beach County, which boasts more FHSAA state football titles all-time (29) than any other FL county, doesn’t have a school in a state final for the first time since 2001.
In contrast, Broward County which has never won more than one state football title in a single season, could have as many as three schools win titles this year. 3A University School defeated Madison County 24-17 last Saturday to win its ever state title last Saturday, St. Thomas Aquinas (playing for 7th title) and Cypress Bay (playing for 1st) have a chance to win state titles this weekend.
Also, none of the schools who won state titles last season (on the field) won one this year:
8A Plant (Tampa)
7A Manatee (Bradenton)
6A Armwood (Seffner)
5A Miami Norland
4A Bolles (Jacksonville)
3A American Heritage (Delray)
2A North Florida Christian (Tallahassee)
1A Jefferson County (Monticello)
Guess it is just a season of change…OOPS…hope the Ancient Mayans didn’t hear that. LOL
