Sandlot breeding ground for Bulldog’s Devin Brockington

Devin Brockington
Zephyrhills, 2014 ATH
5-10/160lbs

Devin Brockington is currently the 6th ranked ATH in the BCP coverage area. You probably don’t know who Devin Brockington is if you live outside of Pasco County. He is extremely talented, high motor player and performs at a high level. He is attracting some college attention from Oregon, Nebraska, West Virginia and Miami.

The attention he is receiving now, was a dream once before. Like so many other Tampa Bay prospects, football is an outlet. A way to use aggression and skill to reach a long term goal. “When I was coming up, we didn’t have much. I didn’t play organized football until I was 12 or 13. I came up playing sandlot. So when I finally got in pads, it felt like a dream. Football is my life basically. I love it, I dream it. Everything!” The tone in his voice was very convincing, so believable and the passion was evident.

What makes Brockington so dangerous? “Very shirty. I’m fast, but not as fast as I want to be. But, I have the burst to get out of there. I think I have good ball skills, run good routes and perform on special teams. I rate myself as an athlete.”

An impact player on both sides of the ball, Brockington seems to be offensive minded. He loves the spread offense of Oregon and Oklahoma. The fast pace, quick hit style that allows players to make plays in space. Perfect for an athlete who is tough to catch and bring down.

Best play in high school career:  Vs. Wiregrass, Stripped the ball carrier, recovered the fumble and returned the fumble for a TD. See HERE at :41 second mark

Zephyrhills vs Pasco: “It’s Big! We fight hard. It’s a big rivalry.” It would be unanimous that Pasco High is the better team. But, do they have the most talent? Depends on who you say ask and what side of the stadium you sit on when Pasco and Zephyrhills play. No matter the record, the school faithful will attend this game which has a small town feel; When everything in town shuts down for the Friday night showdown. Brockington believes the outcome this year could be different. The team has been training very hard throughout the summer months and in his own words, “Way more hungrier!”

Pasco is the circled game on the schedule. The Bulldogs don’t want to just defeat Pasco. They want to defeat each team on their schedule. “Way more hungier than last year. Everyone is together. We are more confortable this season than last season. Everything is clicking right now.”  Zhills has a chance to challenge Pasco High and be better than last season. Nothing will be given, they will have to earn it. Which Brockington and the Bulldogs are willing to do.
