Round 2: Five Linebackers to Watch

Seminole 2022 OLB Kameron Moore – 6’2” 215 lbs – Film

Moore is Seminole’s leading tackler. Statistics from the playoff win over Winter Park have not been entered yet. His overall stats show 55 total tackles, 29 solo tackles, 4 tackles for loss, 2 interceptions, and 1 fumble recovery. He also had a touchdown reception in Seminole’s 29-12 win against Lake Mary on October 22nd. Seminole will now host Lake Mary for the second time in less than a month. In that game, Moore and the Seminole defense held the powerful Lake Mary offense to season-low 12 points. In addition to the touchdown, Moore had 4 tackles and 1 tackle for loss in that win.

Jesuit 2022 LB AJ Cottrill – 6’1” 217 lbs – Film

Cottrill is continuing to do a great job helping lead the vaunted Jesuit defense this season. The Tigers are coming off of a first-round 50-0 shutout of Boca Ciega. Incredibly, Jesuit hasn’t given up a single point since October 8th. They have outscored opponents 216-0 in that five-game stretch. Statistics from round one have not been entered. Cottrill finished the regular season with 92 total tackles, 49 solos, 4 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and 4 fumble recoveries with 3 of them being returned for touchdowns. He also returned a punt for a touchdown. For the second round, Jesuit hosts Braden River. The Pirates eliminated Countryside in the first round by a score of 30-16. Cottrill and the run defense will be busy as the Pirates run the ball 76% of the time. Look for him to have a big game.

Wildwood 2023 LB Jawarren Corbin – 6’1” 230 lbs – Film

Wildwood took down Fort Meade in the first round by a score of 29-13. The Wildcats have not posted defensive statistics yet, but based on his game film, it looks like he played great. His game highlights include a fumble return for a touchdown. Wildwood travels to Hawthorne this week. Hawthorne is undefeated and the top seed in the region, so Wildwood has their work cut out for them. Corbin will be vital to slowing down Hawthorne’s dynamic offense.

Lakeland Christian 2023 LB Mack Estrada – 6’3” 195 lbs – Film

Top-seeded Lakeland Christian enjoyed a first-round bye. Meanwhile, fourth-seeded Frostproof, took down Windermere Prep by a score of 40-6 setting up a rematch between the Vikings and Bulldogs. The October 15th game was a lopsided 41-0 win for Lakeland Christian. In that game, Estrada had 6 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, and 2 forced fumbles. He also scored two touchdowns from the tight end position in that game. Expect him to play a major role again in this week’s rematch.

The Villages 2022 LB Ellis Poplaski – 6’ 230 lbs – Film

Poplaski plays linebacker and guard at a high level. During the regular season, he totaled 92 total tackles, 29 solos, 15 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 1 recovery, and 1 interception. He also has 33 pancakes blocks and has been an important blocker for an offense averaged 7 yards per carry. The Villages hosts Keystone Heights on Friday. The undefeated Buffalo will be fresh off of a first-round bye. While they were resting, Keystone Heights thumped Umatilla by a score of 50-0. The Indians are 10-1 and their offense averages 42 points per game. They have run the ball 94% of the time taking 502 carries for 3,869 yards and 58 touchdowns. Poplaski will clearly be busy this week. He will have a lot of opportunities to make some plays and help his team make it to the next round.
