Recruiting Mailbag: Can you still get ranked?

Throw anything you have this way! Each week your questions will be published, along with their responses. If you submit a question you also consent to your first name being published on BigCountyPreps.com. Submit Here

BJ: How come HCC has a basketball team and not football? Why is it so hard to get Florida JUCO football teams?

BCP: Good question and don’t have an answer for you. That issue is above my pay grade.

Tom: Hear college football experts keep reiterating that player rankings don’t matter when in fact that could be further from the truth. When is the last time an FBS program offered a QB that didn’t have at least 2 or 3 stars next to his name? I don’t know of any. There are tons of kids out there who should be ranked but did not play in a system that worked best for their skill set, thus stats were not mind blowing. Nor have they been to right venues to get noticed.

So here is my question….is it too late for my son (QB c/o2015) to become a ranked player by media tabloids? If not, what does he need to do to make this happen? If too late to become ranked, then what level (FCS, D2, D3) schools should we focus our energies on? Thank you.

BCP: Likely too late to get ranked. National recruiting websites track players with offers. If your kid doesn’t have an offer, he will likely not be ranked by national networks. If he can play (Gotta put your bias aside) with the right visibility, he could gain D1 attention. No offers by the end of the summer. Focus on lover division schools.

Rankings matter to fans. Keep it simple, they are just a way for fans and writers to categorize the type of recruit a prospect may be. Inside a college recruiting conference room, they have their own ranking, rating, evaluation system. I have never heard a major or lower division college coach refer to a prospect by his “stars” or lack there of.

Sam: Haines City High 2015 Brian Henderson how is he looking on the field? I heard he’s a very strong CB with speed.

Do you have film on Haines City’s 2015 CB Brian Henderson? You don’t hear his name much but he plays the position very well, he’s strong and fast. I saw he film on hudl. Do you think he has a chance at getting recruited from schools?

BCP: He has not placed himself in front of us by attending any of our camps that we organized to evaluate him as a potential prospect. I don’t know much about him.
