Recruiting Mailbags: KJ Hopkins and SIZE

Bobby D: Preston, Is Wharton’s KJ Hopkins signed or committed to anyone yet? This kid can play anywhere, has 4.4 speed, great hands and gives his all on the field. In my opinion one of the best in the county, he caught everything Chase Linton threw his way, played DB/KR/WR/ATH and had 395 total yds by himself in the game against DR. Philips. Talent speaks for itself and I know he has had a few problems, but according to coaches I’ve talked to, this kid changed his whole life around to make it, so what’s his future look like?

BCP: I wish I could tell the future. At least at this point I can not. However, when you get behind the 8 ball, it’s tough to recover. Junior film is the most important for D1 coaches. KJ did not have any. Right now, he will likely be a lower division prospect if he is academically qualified. Good player.

Kris Paine: If Your An Undersized Player Like My Self But Still Show Skills, Does That Lower Your Chances Of A Scholarship?

BCP: There are always exceptions to the rule. We see good examples of smaller players in big roles at each level. But, not many. The smaller you are, the more exceptional you must be at your craft. To answer your question, it makes your route to the next level a litter tougher if you are below the average size for your position and your skill set is just average and not eye popping!
