RECRUITING

Recruiting mailbag: “Why am I not receiving calls?”

Anonymous: Why am I not receiving calls from college coaches? I’m in 2013 class and multiple D1 and D1AA coaches have told me they love my film and have invited me to games. What time period should I expect D1AA schools to make a move if they want me?

BCP: You are not receiving calls, because you are not a top prospect on their board. May not sound good, but that’s the truth. If they were interested, they would be calling. 1AA schools recruit at the same time as the 1A schools. So, same would apply if they are not calling yet. Don’t be discouraged, lots of time left in the recruiting season.

Dallas: With offensive linemen not getting much love in the press, what do we have to do to get noticed?

BCP: The position is not one that attracts lots of attention. Offensive linemen don’t accumulate stats so there is not much for media to refer to. Flat harsh truth: to get attention as an offensive lineman, you need attend quality showcases in the off season and be a FLAT OUT MONSTER during the season, in pads. You really have to be some what of a prick, a dog, a plain and simple beast. You have to drive defenders off the ball 10 yards down the field and pancake them through the turf. You have to show great footwork in pass pro and a mean punch combined with good hand placement. See film on Isaiah Wynn, Mason Cole and Corey Martinez.

Don’t expect, much love as an offensive lineman. But, people will follow if you have the size and show promise at off season showcases.
