RECRUITING

Recruiting Mailbag: Getting overlooked

Tim: How do you get kids recruited that you know are getting overlooked?

BCP: Tim, you can’t get anyone recruited. You can assist in making colleges aware of the player and promote him. But, the schools are going to have to WANT to RECRUIT HIM. Many college coaches have good relationships with select people/coaches and weigh heavily on their judgment and evaluations of kids. That still will not get a kid recruited. Depending on the college coaching staff here are some factors that MAY come into play:

– Height and weight requirement for positions
– academic requirements
– scholarships available
– number of players per position a school is taking in a recruiting year
– is the prospect a player who can play right away or will need to develop

Remember, just because you think a player is really good, ultimately a college coaching staff has to feel the same.
