Larry: We are receiving letters from college coaches some of which say they cannot contact recruits until their junior year yet I know a freshman QB who has visited a campus many times, attended games as a recruit guest, attended practices and recently was brought into a head coaches office and made an offer. Details were discussed and the freshman recruit verbally committed to the university. If no contact is to be made before junior year, how does a college coach offer a freshman football player and the player verbally accept?
BCP: The key is “initiate” contact. A prospect or family can contact college coaches. They can visit the campus on their own dollar and visit a coaching staff during times specified by the recruiting calendar. See this link CLICK HERE AND HERE
A college coach can verbally offer a prospect at anytime and do not have to speak directly to him or a parent to do so. There are no restrictions on college coaches contacting high school coaches. Example:
College coach: [phone call to high school coach] We want to offer Joe Small.
High School coach: Awesome
College coach: can you have him call me?
High school coach: I will tell him about the offer and pass along your number.
Player: [makes call to college coach] thanks for the offer coach, I want to commit.
Simple as that!

Lisa: Should I be worried if my son c/o 2015 hasn’t gotten any offers yet? Also, we see a few schools have my son on their website as a prospect…what is that all about and is that encouraging??
BCP: No.Do not be worried. Not many prospects are offered prior to their senior season. Don’t let media reports of Underclassmen offers fool you. Of the 150 plus prospects in our area that will sign a NCAA d1-d2 scholarship, only about 1/4 of those kids are verbally offered as Underclassmen.
Don’t get excited until written offers come in the mail during his senior season. Easier said than done. Naturally you will be excited, but nothing is “For Sure” until it’s in writing.

Tyler: I’m getting emails from colleges stating my film is great and we have been having conversations back and forth. Does this mean they are seriously interested?
BCP: Means just what it says. Don’t look too far into it and don’t disregard it. They have seen the film, they like it and have talked about you as a staff. Great! But keep it in perspective. They do that with all kids who they evaluate. Hundreds of kids have received the same email. But, at least you are one of them and not “none of them.”

Maalik: I just had a D2 coach email me to say he was really impressed with my film and is looking forward to the recruiting process with me. What does this mean and what should I expect from that coach in the future?
BCP: See above. If his interest grows, he will stay in contact and when the recruiting calendar allows, his aggression level toward recruiting you should increase.
