John: Can you tell us how Fresh/Soph players can be proactive as far as getting in databases, emailing schools etc so their name is out there by the time their junior year rolls around? Camps, combines, BCP events are givens talking about above and beyond these activities.

BCP: You stated the answer in your question. The primary way and the way you would like it, is to perform and be noticed. You need to do some research on the proper events and camps to attend. Pricey camps or showcases are not always the best. Inexpensive camps or showcases are not always quality. I can not tell you what other companies do. I can only tell you what we do. We have a good database of college coaches at every level. Not all of them, but a solid amount. So…

1) you perform well
2) you get your name circled on the roster
3) you get an evaluation
4) the info is sent to our contacts

It’s nothing complex about what we do. It is just that our coaches respect our opinion, use our information and that is the purpose.

Alex: How can you be one of the top players at your position in the county and not get offered but someone under you can?

BCP: Because the top players may not be the top prospect. A 3,000 yard passer who is 5-11 will not get as much recruiting attention as a 1,500 yard passer who is 6-3. Measurables, skill set and speed make for a better college prospect. Production makes for a top high school player. BIG DIFFERENCE! In addition, the top players in the county are opinion based.  One person may think “John Joe” is one of the top players in the County. Someone else may think just the opposite.  Same goes for college coaches who extend athletic scholarships.

Jaye: Coach Preston, Living in Florida how would I go about getting my information out to coaches that may not recruit in this area and let them know I am interested in their program?

BCP: Well, let me start by saying this. There are not that many schools that DO NOT recruit the state of Florida. Next, with services like BCP and Sunshine Preps, there are not that many schools who won’t know about prospects who can play at specified levels from the state of Florida. Last, if schools do not traditionally actively recruit the state of Florida, they usually only come for “Straight DOGS!”  The 4 and 5 star prospects who are “must haves”. If you would like to reach out to schools, go online, get the recruiting coordinators’ email address and drop him a line along with your film. Beware though, it could be a while before it gets opened. Lots of parents and coaches send email/film daily.

Larry: With the spring evaluation period for FBS & FCS complete, do you have any idea how many offers were made and what percent of the roster openings does this represent. I know it’s difficult to gage with the number of offers that are made for each opening.

BCP: Every school is different and no way to really know that info unless you know the number of scholarship roster spots, the number of signees each school can sign, number of offers extended and number of verbal commits. Even with that, things will change between September and National Signing Day in February 2014.

continued…Historically, are most roster spots (commitments) filled with offers made during spring evaluation, summer camp(s), or the fall football season?

BCP: Could not accurately tell you that. However lots of offers go out in the off season, more come in the fall and most commitments are during the football season. Colleges pull offers, extend new offers, kids commit and coaches will extend late offers to kids lower on their recruiting board. Numerous variables and scenarios will happen in the next 6-8 months.

Tyler: Will you help kickers/punters to get recruited?

BCP: Yes. That is why we are having BOOT CAMP Kick/Punt showcase in August. Registration opens Monday.
