To keep this simple, I could say that the characteristic of a 3-4 NG and a 4-3 DT are similar. Be able to get a push upfront, shoot gaps and take up space. Gibbs Albert McCoy is a big man who is powerful and can occupy blockers yet quick enough to provide a pass rush. McCoy was virtually a no name going into the 2011 season. The 6-5/268lbs 2012 prospect currently has an offer from Howard and Ball State with heavy interest from South Florida, Kansas and Maryland. McCoy feels that he is a good player with a big potential pond “I think I can play at any level and would love for Missouri, Maryland, Syracuse to recruit me”, says McCoy.

College coaches generally look for a player who is between 6-3 and 6-6 and weighs in 240 pounds and up. McCoy fits that description. At 6-5 and 268 pounds, McCoy sheds blocks very well, has good lateral agility and is able to clear piles. He has only been playing football since high school so he is still developing. Improvement will come in his hand use and balance. Right now, his footwork is ok, but will get better with time, coaching and reps.

The best defensive tackles are extremely good run stoppers and fierce pass rushers. They possess quick hands, body control and are able to change directions. The best have great quickness off the ball and are able to redirect their charge very quickly versus the run. McCoy’s attitude is to fit this mold. To be called one of the best. Right now, he is learning, soaking it all up and taking coaching. He is hungry, bright and motivated. We introduce you to Albert McCoy.
