PASCO COUNTY RECRUITING

Prospect Focus: Mitchell’s Matt Hegwood

You hear about the “bug uglies” and “big nasties” along the trenches on both sides of the ball–and about 99.9-percent of the time that’s what’s going on in those trenches–some big ugliness created by some big nastiness. One of those big boys that brings that tenacity to the position is Mitchell’s Matt Hegwood.

Hegwood has been showcasing his skills for two years on the camp season and has steadily progressed with his hands, his feet and his technique for moving opposing tacklers out of the way. The 6-foot-2, 300-pounder played right tackle for the Mustangs this season and was often-intstrumental in the success of the offense with many of the Mustangs origins of big plays coming courtesy of the right side.

The big mauler from the Class of 2017 for the Mustangs is starting to look very comfortable/confident in his pass protections following another season on varsity and looks like he’s having way too much fun in run blocking while trying to whip up some pancakes–excuse us, some running lanes–for his star running back Mychael Hamilton and dual-threat QB Larry DallaBetta.

This season, Mitchell compiled 3,764 yards of total offense and averaged 35 points per contest en route to their first district championship and a playoff appearance in Class 6A. Hegwood is also an Xecutives invitee based on his performance from the Ignite Showcase.
