PINELLAS COUNTY RECRUITING

Prospect Focus: CB Zamari Maxwell – Pinellas Park

It seems every time we turn around–there’s another Patriot turning heads. Granted, having a ton prospects doesn’t guarantee team success, but in P-Park’s case–it’s translating into a team you’d rather NOT see on your schedule if you aren’t prepared for battle. This time it’s CB Zamari Maxwell’s turn to get a piece of the action. Although we list the 5-foot-11, 165-pounder as a corner, he’s got skills on the offensive side of the ball that with some more reps and development could turn him into a nightmare for either opposing coordinator.

Maxwell’s got the quick-twitch you’re looking for on the defensive side–manning his island with more security than a Papal visit. The young man picked-off opposing QB’s seven times last season totaling in 159 yards of returns once he had the ball in his hands. He also posted 44 tackles–32 solo–while being credited with 16 passes defensed and a caused fumble. On the offensive side, Maxwell caught five passes for 61 yards while rushing for 122 yards on nine carries–good for a double-digit average every time he touched the ball in that regard.

All of that plus the confidence to play the position–something that’s completely undersold for playing corner–because he knows it, along with a few other things he knows–because here’s the most important state of them all. He’s got a 4.0 GPA in the classroom. End of story.
