Armwood’s Mekhi Lapoint is an athletic safety that has become of Hillsborough County’s–make that the State of Florida’s premier ballhawks–for the Hawks.

Armwood’s Mehki Lapointe led the entire state in INT’s last season with ten.

Last season, Lapointe led the charge in the secondary for a defensive unit that was historical for Armwood with ten interceptions, which was good enough to lead the state once the season ended. The 6-foot-1, 182-pounder also chipped in with 53 tackles–28 of those solo–with three tackles for loss. All three of those tackles-for-loss came against rivals Hillsborough as well. Lapointe was also credited with three passes defensed, a fumble recovery and a blocked field goal.

When you watch Lapointe’s film, it’s clear within the first three frames why he was so special this season for Armwood. Lapointe’s size is ideal at the position and he’s seemingly never in the wrong spot. Whether he’s showcasing instincts and vertical jumping ability that have him in position to make the interception itself or be waiting for the tipped pass to fall into his hands, Lapointe’s “that guy” in the backend of the defense that’s always around.

When he’s not hurting opposing QB’s feelings by taking the ball away every single game, he’s laying a hurt on opposing ball carriers and wideout using that frame of his to hit-and-drop them at the point of attack.

More good news for Armwood and Lapointe–aside from his return for his senior season–is the blessing of his first offer from Iowa State just two days ago. The Cyclones may be the first offer for Lapointe, but they certainly won’t be the last once more sets of eyes start locking on to this talent.
