HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY RECRUITING

Production Focus: Newsome’s Dylan Throneburg

The Wolves have made a habit of producing football players that are cut from some of the toughest of cloths around and this young man we are about to highlight fits that description. Newsome’s Dylan Throneburg (5-11/198) plays outside linebacker and is setting a trend that could see him set some pretty high standards at the position for his school–especially if he continues the numerical progression he’s made the past three seasons.

Of course, it’s not all about the numbers–in fact, the most important numbers are size and GPA–two things that have absolutely ZERO to do with tackles, interceptions and so on. Throneburg’s production cannot be ignored nor passed-off as some sort of flash in the pan though–and like we’ve mentioned already–if he keeps this up he’ll be one of Hillsborough County’s leading tacklers this fall.

Throneburg (according to Maxpreps) played just one game for the Wolves his freshman year, but in that one game the young man came in and was credited with 14 tackles and a caused fumble in that game. His sophomore season, he was credited with playing five games and hit the mark with 22 tackles, two tackles for loss, a QB hurry, a pass defensed and a fumble recovery showing his active nature from the spot.

This past season, Throneburg shattered his tackles with 84–40 solo–with four tackles for loss and three caused fumbles. That kind of production will be much needed again this fall as the Wolves play in the state’s highest classification with perennial powers Manatee and still having to deal with squads like Steinbrenner, and of course their arch rivals Durant–while not a district game–always requires a visit to the trainers table pre-and-postgame.

When you watch his film, virtually everything about his game screams “linebacker” which means he’s exactly where he should be on the field. Those numbers bear witness to that fact and when you watch his ability to pursue the ball, hit the ball carrier with force and drop him right after contact is one of the reasons why we feel he’s in a pretty good place to succeed (numerically and beyond) this season and eventually at the next level.
