Chamberlain’s Donovan Baker is definitely a playmaker that deserves a little credit for doing his part even though the Chiefs were 2-8 last season. The 5-foot-9, 180-pound cornerback proved he has a nose for the ball and can do things with his legs and feet once he’s secured it with his hands.
Last season was immensely productive for Baker racking up nearly 200 yards in interception returns. He added 22 tackles and four passes defensed to go with his eight interceptions on the year. One of those interceptions he returned for a touchdown. Baker also caused two fumbles, recovered a fumble and blocked two punts on special teams.
His return yardage on the interceptions is by no surprise when you watch his athleticism in the open field. Baker is tough to bring down once he’s moving showcasing his lower body strength. Playing out on the island looks pretty easy, but in order to takeaway all those passes and accrue all that yardage–you’ve got to be in the right place at the right time–which is something Baker’s become adept at doing possessing great anticipation.
