POW6R POINTS FROM THE AMERICAN

American Pow6r Points

UCF, Navy and USF remain undefeated after Week 6, making The American the only league among the 10 NCAA FBS conferences with three unbeaten teams.

UCF forged a tie with idle USF atop the East Division standings as the Knights improved to 4-0 overall (2-0 in The American) with a 51-23 win against Cincinnati Saturday night. The game was terminated with four seconds left in the third quarter due to lightning and heavy rains in Cincinnati, but the Knights nonetheless put up impressive numbers, registering 515 yards of offense and scoring on all eight possessions. QB McKenzie Milton led the way with five touchdown passes and 374 yards, while WR Tre’Quan Smith found the end zone four times and had five receptions for 165 yards.

Navy remained unbeaten at 5-0 as the Midshipmen took the first step toward reclaiming the Commander In Chief’s Trophy with a thrilling 48-45 win against Air Force in front of a record crowd of nearly 39,000 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. QB Zach Abey engineered a 75-yard drive in the closing minute, capped by a touchdown pass to WR Tyler Carmona with 15 seconds left. Abey rushed for 214 yards and two touchdowns and passed for 86 yards and two TDs for Navy, which finished with 557 yards of offense.

Houston improved to 2-0 in conference play, and 4-1 overall, as the Cougars took a 35-22 win against SMU in a key West Division battle at TDECU Stadium. RB Duke Catalon rushed for 177 yards and two touchdowns and QB Kyle Postma threw a pair of touchdown passes, but it was Houston’s defense that came up big as the Cougars slowed down a Mustang offense that had averaged 48 points per game.

Memphis bounced back from its first loss of the season in emphatic fashion as the Tigers broke open what had been a 28-28 game with a big second half in a 70-31 win at UConn Friday. The Tigers finished with 711 yards of offense and 34 first downs as QB Riley Ferguson and WR Anthony Miller tied American Athletic Conference records. Ferguson was 34 of 48 for 431 yards and a record seven touchdowns without an interception, while Miller had 15 catches for 224 yards and a record four touchdowns.

Tulane evened its conference record at 1-1 and the Green Wave improved to 3-2 overall with a 62-28 win against Tulsa at Yulman Stadium. The Green Wave built a 48-7 halftime lead on the strength of an offense that finished with 488 rushing yards and 653 total yards. RB Dontrell Hilliard rushed for 175 yards and four touchdowns.

Temple picked up its third win of the season as the Owls won their first conference game of the year with a 34-10 road victory against ECU. The Owls registered season highs in points and yards (523) behind QB Logan Marchi, who threw for 321 yards and two touchdowns, and RB David Hood, who rushed for 106 yards and a TD.
