POLK COUNTY

Polk’s in Primetime This Week

For the next few days, be prepared for Polk County. Before the Kathleen and Lake Region game was cancelled last week, the county was scheduled to be virtually the only games in town as we quickly come to the conclusion of the Spring Season around Tampa Bay this Thursday and Friday. The list of games includes some heavy-hitters not named Lakeland or Lake Gibson along with rosters full of potential and established prospects.

The reigning 2A State Champions Victory Christian will line-up this Friday down in “The Muck” versus Pahokee, while Winter Haven and Haines City will square off on Friday Night out at the home of the Hornets as they begin life without the heralded Derwin James. The Miners of Fort Meade get us started tomorrow night as they host DeSoto County as they begin life with Frostproof in the rural Class 1A, the state’s smallest class and one they can do some damage in this season. Haines City finds themselves in a new classification (the state’s largest) with 7A championship finalists, Kissimmee-Osceola.

Although last week gave us some insight into the progress of squads such as Lakeland, Lake Gibson and Lakeland Christian, we were denied opportunities to see some intriguing teams like Auburndale and Lake Wales due to weather and cancellations. In the classroom, this lack of material to be graded may hurt when the time comes to turn in final grades; something that we roll-out over the course of the next week. The silver-lining for those teams is that we here at BCP do acknowledge that things happen and it’s okay to take an “I” in the short term and keep moving towards the bigger picture.

Keep it locked to BCP as we focus on Polk from game previews and reactions, to prospect interviews and final grades.
