Plant pulls away late from Sickles

TAMPA – With 9 minutes left in the game, Plant only led 7-0 and that score came in the last minute of the first half one play after a Sickles penalty on a Panthers’ missed field goal attempt.

Plant had excellent field position in fourth quarter aided by a couple of 20 plus yard punt returns by senior Juwan Burgess and would score three additional touchdowns for a 27-0 final score.

Panther scoring plays came on an 8-yard run by junior Ty Thompson, 26-yard & 56-yard catches by senior Whop Philyor from senior Dane Frantzen, and a 7-yard run by Dane Frantzen.

Frantzen went 9-for-17 for 135 yards and two touchdowns and had 22 carries for 100 yards and a rushing touchdown, Philyor had 135 All-Purpose yards and two touchdowns, Thompson had 10 carries for 87 yards and 1 touchdown, and Burgess had 67 punt return yards.

Plant shutout defense got contributions from junior Micah Mcfadden with 3 tackle-for-losses, forced fumble, knocked down pass and a share of a sack, senior Drew Miller had 3 tackle-for-losses, fumble recovery, and a share of a sack, and junior Judge Culpepper with a sack, forced fumble and a tackle-for-loss.

Sickles junior Jordan McCloud was 11-of-20 for 90 yards and rushed 15 times for 45 yards, junior Brandon Brooks had 13 carries for 88 yards, senior Nazir Achecar had 78 all-purpose yards.

Gryphons defense got contributions from senior Nick Heikkinen who had 2 sacks, 2 tackle-for-losses, a fumble recovery and a quarterback hurry, senior Timarcus Simpson had 3 tackle-for-losses, and junior Jared Miller had a fumble recovery and tackle-for-loss.
