Plant: Miramar Film Study. How good are they?

Miramar
13-0
Miramar, FL

Trips open formation by Miramar, simple bubble play by the #3 WR. Play that they have plenty of success with because of the timing and playmakers

Off top, this is a very talent rich football team. The Patriots the do a number of different things on both sides of the ball. The QB is the guy that makes them go! He is a special player with plenty athleticism and skill. He is the guy Plant will need to contain. Usually, they are a very balanced team that mixes in the run with pass consistently. But, some games they have shown to either run or pass the ball more depending on the success they are having that game.

Offensive Scheme
Spread:Zone, Zone option, quick passing game

The offense is a no huddle team that gets their play call from the sideline when the team is lined up at the line of scrimmage. At times, they get a little fancy with formations and play calls, but don’t have much success with it. They will find what works and stick with it, until the defense makes an adjustment.

Favorite Formations
Trips, Trips open, 80/doubles

QB
Senior QB, Cam Hudge is the real deal. He is an athlete behind center, but with a dynamic arm. He has tremendous ability to throw the ball with accuracy when in the pocket or while on the run. I think his best asset is his decision making. Usually when a QB is a good athlete, he depends on his legs to get out of trouble by tucking the ball and taking off. However, this young man has shown the ability to take a hit and get off a good pass, scramble with his eye downfield and run when he needs to run. I think he is solid and makes few errors.

RB and WR
Both positions are solid. The receivers are very versatile and do not drop many balls. The RBs run the ball well, but not one of them have a real “Wow” factor from what I have observed.

OL
Good and bad here. The Patriot offensive line has really good size. They are pretty athletic and get after it some. Here is what I really like about them: When Miramar lines up in a flex or I pro formation (a TB and FB) the offensive line is as good as any around. When they zone block, they are very average. They do not pick up stunts and pressures very well and are very average at pass protection.

How can Plant be successful on defense?
The Panthers must slant the defensive front and find success with a few stunts and pressures. I think the Panthers can get to the QB with edge blitzes, but may need to incorporate a “spy” (a defender responsible for the QB) for the QB when he decides to take off and run.

I think the secondary will be fine as long as they do not lose responsibility. They will have to be hungry but smart, because Mirmar will attempt to hit Plant with the short passing game and then try for the home run.

Defensive Scheme
Various even front defenses with a combination of zone and man coverages

DL
Very simple here. This group is great versus the pass. They have a high motor and rush up field very well. In contrast, they are not as good against the run. They tend to play very high and allow the offensive line to get into their chest.

LB

Miramar defensive front 7. This is a normal alignment by the LBs. Observe the lack of spacing between the defensive line and the line backers.

OK, here is the thing with the line backers. Their alignment is no more than one and a half yards behind the defensive line. It looks like the scheme is designed to take away the gaps by alignment. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. After looking at the LBs more, by watching more film, I started to think they are better than average. They are actually pretty good. They shoot gaps well, pass drop well and are sure tacklers. They are a fast bunch that can chase down ball carriers, but often have trouble between the tackles and getting off blocks.

Secondary
Really good group here. They are fast with good recovery speed. Rarely did I see them out of position and they made plays every game.

How can Plant have success on Offense?
I think Plant needs to chip away at the interior of the defense. They may not bash Miramar, but they need to get 3 yards here and 3 yards there. The Patriot defense is fast side line to side line and they attack the line of scrimmage well, but I feel, if Plant can get positive yards each time they run the ball, it will open up the passing game. Weiner will have to test the Miramar secondary. Even though they are good, he must loosen the secondary up and at the same time, control the clock.
