Plant Co-Defensive Coordinator Matt Johnson, leaving Plant

Plant Co-Defensive Coordinator Matt Johnson is leaving Plant and and returning to Michigan. It has not been determined if Johnson will continue his coaching career when he returns, but it is certain that he will be missed.

Johnson spent the last three seasons as the Co-Defensive Coordinator (with John Few), defensive backs coach (with Bo Puckett) and has been a key member of the Plant staff since the spring of 2004, under interim head football coach, Mike McWilliams in the spring of ’04. Under Johnson and Few, the Plant defenses allowed an average of just 191 points per year to their opponents playing more than 13 games a year in that span. Prior to joining the Plant staff, Johnson spent one season coaching at Durant.

Interesting fact: Johnson was a walk on at Michigan for the football team whom eventually earned a scholarship.
